“We know what this instrument is designed for,” said a representative, referring to the DMCA claim system. Rather, they pulled them down simply because of the tone of their content. The other 40-plus videos that it issued DMCA notices against did not. The thing is that we cannot allow this information, this false information to stay on the web.”īut, as even Battlestate admits, only two videos contained information about rumors of a security leak. “We didn’t react to a lot of negative criticism, but in this particular case, Eroktic has crossed the line and we had to act hard on them. “We have been following a pretty much all the creators videos and all materials which are uploaded in the web,” a representative told Polygon. They stopped being a video game developer with a beautifully crafted product, and started to become a developer that will make an example of you if you took things too far.”Īnother content producer, who goes by the handle “Klean,” said that he is no longer comfortable creating the popular Talking Tarkov podcast.īattlestate’s representative said that, due to what they consider to be the damaging nature of Eroktic’s videos, their organization was left with no other choice. 17, Battlestate Games is now a developer that has levied a series of DMCA claims against a YouTube personality to the extent of which there is no precedent domestically or internationally, as is my understanding, as to the appropriateness of this action. 13, Battlestate Games was a developer making the best shooter that the world has ever seen, in my opinion,” said OnepegMG. “OnepegMG” even prepared a 15-minute statement about his departure. A so-called “ emissary,” Battlestate’s term for affiliated content creators, in the U.S. The support for Eroktic on social media has been extensive. During a broadcast today on Twitch, Eroktic said that he has created more than 300 YouTube videos on Tarkov and that between 80 and 90 percent of his channel’s more than two million views can be attributed to that content.įirewatch creators can target PewDiePie with DMCA takedowns, and it’s perfectly legal Many videos with Escape From Tarkov content in them remain on Eroktic’s channel. For that reason alone, they say they are justified in executing the takedown claims. Battlestate said that while misinformation was only part of several of those videos, “negative hype” was present in all of them. If we find that those videos have no issues with the law and with negative rhetorics, we might call back our strikes.”Ī post on Eroktic’s Twitter account indicates that at least 47 of his videos had DMCA claims made against them over the weekend. “Right now we are reviewing all the videos which were copyright strikes. Following the claims, those videos are no longer visible on YouTube. “The reason why we acted so strong and so quick is that we had to stop this misinformation about the data leak,” said a representative of Battlestate’s public relations team, in Russian and through a translator. Escape From Tarkov is a session-based multiplayer shooter with a persistent inventory and economy. Battlestate claims the misinformation was damaging to the company, and had to be dealt with quickly. The confrontation between Battlestate and Eroktic stems from what the developer says was a pair of inaccurate video claiming that user information, including passwords and personal information, had been leaked from the company databases. The law, which is broadly written, tends to support these kinds of actions by game developers. Reached for comment, Battlestate said it had no other choice than to issue DMCA claims, which could result in serious legal issues for Eroktic up to and including the removal of his channel from YouTube. Battlestate Games, developers of the multiplayer tactical shooter Escape From Tarkov, have issued nearly 50 Digital Millennium Copyright Copyright Act (DMCA) claims against a YouTuber with the handle “Eroktic.” Rather than citing piracy or unfair use of content for monetization, Battlestate tells Polygon those claims were made because of incorrect information and overall negativity about their game.

Myron Krueger, a computer artist, developed a succession of "artificial reality" experiences using computers and video systems. It was never developed beyond a lab project because it was too heavy for users to comfortably wear they had to be strapped in because it was suspended from the ceiling. These 3D models changed perspective when the user moved their head due to the tracking system. This head-mount connected to a computer rather than a camera and was quite primitive as it could only show simple virtual wire-frame shapes. Sutherland, with his student Bob Sproull, created the first virtual reality HMD, named The Sword of Damocles. This assisted in the progression of VR because the military subsequently provided a lot of funding for producing better flight simulators. Thomas Furness, a military engineer, created the first flight simulator for the Air Force. With appropriate programming such a display could literally be the Wonderland into which Alice walked.” 1966 Handcuffs displayed in such a room would be confining, and a bullet displayed in such a room would be fatal. A chair displayed in such a room would be good enough to sit in. “The ultimate display would, of course, be a room within which the computer can control the existence of matter. His paper is seen as the fundamental blueprint for VR. This concept featured computer hardware to form the virtual world and to keep it functioning in real-time. This included the user being able to interact with objects. The concept was of a virtual world viewed through an HMD which replicated reality so well that the user would not be able to differentiate from actual reality. Ivan Sutherland, a computer scientist, presented his vision of the Ultimate Display. A remote camera imitated the head movements so the user could look around the setting. However, this wasn't used for virtual reality it was developed for the military to allow them to remotely look at hazardous situations. It had built-in video screens for each eye and a head-tracking system. Headsight was the first motion tracking HMD. Until Headsight was created by Comeau and Bryan, two Philco Corporation engineers. There was no motion tracking in the headset at this point.įast-track your career with award-winning courses and realistic practice. This provided stereoscopic 3D images with wide vision and stereo sound. Heilig also patented the Telesphere Mask which was the first head-mounted display (HMD). Heilig thought that the Sensorama was the " cinema of the future" and he wanted to fully immerse people in their films. This was done using scent producers, a vibrating chair, stereo speakers and a stereoscopic 3D screen. It combined multiple technologies to stimulate all of the senses: there was a combined full colour 3D video, audio, vibrations, smell and atmospheric effects, such as wind. It was a large booth that could fit up to four people at a time. You are in the story, you speak to the shadows (characters) and they reply the story is all about you, and you are in it."Ĭinematographer Morton Heilig created Sensorama, the first VR machine (patented in 1962). In the story, the main character meets a professor who invented a pair of goggles which enabled "a movie that gives one sight and sound taste, smell, and touch. In 1935 American science fiction writer Stanley Weinbaum presented a fictional model for VR in his short story Pygmalion's Spectacles. It used a pair of mirrors at 45 degree angles to the user's eyes, each reflecting a picture located off to the side. This technology enabled Wheatstone to create the earliest type of stereoscope. The research demonstrated that the brain combines two photographs (one eye viewing each) of the same object taken from different points to make the image appear to have a sense of depth and immersion (3-dimensional). Sir Charles Wheatstone was the first to describe stereopsis in 1838 and was awarded the Royal Medal of the Royal Society in 1840 for his explanation of binocular vision, a research which led him to construct the stereoscope. However the first VR technical developments were in the 1830s, so this is where our timeline starts: 1838 Some consider it to be the origin of the virtual reality (VR) concept as this story was a good prediction of the aims and achievements of the future. The story's main character wears a pair of goggles which transports him to a fictional world which stimulates his senses aptly and features holographic recordings. In 1935 Stanley Weinbaum released Pygmalion's Spectacles - a science fiction story. History of VR - Timeline of Events and Tech Development She was even nominated for a Teen Choice Award the year prior.īut the cheerful, poppy sound Minaj built her empire of 'Barbz' on was nowhere to be found in “Anaconda.” Instead, it was replaced with heavy beats, hip-hop samples, and hardcore rap verses about sex, drugs and more sex. Minaj had built a name for herself with sugar-coated records like “Superbass” and “Starships," and already earned the favor of radio stations and her younger audiences. Nicki Minaj quietly dropped one of the most influential records of her career that same year: “Anaconda.” It was a risky move for a well-respected and successful rap artist. By August, the world saw the marriage of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Justin Bieber’s mugshot, and the steady rise of future pop titan Ariana Grande. The year was 2014, and pop culture already had its fair share of jaw-dropping moments. That was before "Anaconda," the predecessor of "WAP." Sex has been a critical point of conversation since the conception of the rap and hip hop industry, but for so long, songs covering this theme have evaded the top spot on the charts and have been ostracized from the mainstream. The “WAP Challenge” is going viral on TikTok, and the lavish music video has surpassed 13 million views since its August release earlier this year.ĭirty rap songs are nothing new, however. 1 debut in the U.S., and continues to gather acclaim and rack up sales. The only thing more shocking than “WAP”’s lyrics might be its mainstream success. (In case you haven’t heard, it stands for wet ass p-ssy.) The song, which features fellow female rapper Megan Thee Stallion, received mixed reviews, with critics both praising the artists’ sex-positive spirit and denouncing the blatant and (in the opinion of some) unnecessary vulgarity. “WAP," when broken down to its core elements, is one gigantic ode to good sex, dubbing an already unforgettable acronym into American slang. “Certified freak, seven days a week,” Cardi B raps on her latest hit single, “WAP.” Ironically, these lyrics are among the least freaky lines in the song. This also felt like a betrayal for the Five Swatters, but that's far less important because that's all just nonsense. Ultimately, Kyle decided to save his girlfriend - literally, he asked Alyssa to be his girlfriend while making out in one of the bedrooms - and went against his alliance's wishes by not using his power of veto. Seriously, it's so complicated it seems that most of the houseguests involved in the layered gameplay don't actually know what they are part of, and are just careening around from day-to-day pretending to know what is happening - like when you fall asleep in the middle of a work meeting and wake up with a bunch of new responsibilities and no idea what any of them mean. However, for Kyle and Joseph (who are also Leftovers) the Five Swatters is an objectively fake alliance just meant to placate the female houseguests who aren't part of the real alliance. Not only was Kyle in a showmance with Alyssa - he is also in a side alliance - the terribly named Five Swatters - with Indy, Jasmine Davis, Alyssa and Joseph. Kyle was the one who wound up winning the Power of Veto. Now, this is where things get complicated. Taylor's ultimate goal was to use Indy as a pawn, and instead backdoor Alyssa - one of the stronger competitors physically - by use of the veto. Ultimately, she chose to nominate two people outside the alliance - Terrance Higgins and Indiana "Indy" Santos. But now, it would be harder to keep their hands clean and their alliance a secret.Īfter outsing Daniel, Taylor became the Head of Household, marking her first time with real power - and it proved more difficult than she seemed to imagine it would be. The Leftovers had been using the pairing system to pick off people outside of the alliance. This was a huge blow to The Leftovers - the dominating alliance made up of Matthew "Turner" Turner, Monte Taylor, Joseph Abdin, Taylor Hale, Brittany Hoopes, as well as Kyle and Michael. Then, host Julie Chen Moonves dropped a bombshell, strategically speaking - the "Festie Bestie" twist - where all the houseguests were paired up - was coming to an end. Last Thursday, the house kicked out Daniel Durston during Michael Bruner's reign as Head of Household. When you add romance into the mix, things only get more complicated. So, which two houseguests sent packing? Scroll down for the big reveal. Otherwise, here's how everything that led up to and played out during Thursday's live show.Īs any season of Big Brother progresses, the gameplay gets messier and alliances strain, often to a breaking point. I was comfortably recalling my dormant Superhot skills to move through its collections of levels with relative ease. Playing Superhot as roguelike through Mind Control Delete worked for me, at least for a few hours. More cores and hacks can be unlocked with basic progression. Some hacks include increasing the player’s foot speed, boosting their melee speed, and automatically starting with either a katana or a random gun. Between a series of levels, one of two hacks can be selected from a pool of around a dozen. Charge, for example, grants a rechargeable teleport rush to nearby enemies while Recall Force-pulls deployed katanas back to your hand. Cores can add hit points or add abilities. Mind Control Delete obliges this ethos with cores that can alter your avatar and hacks that can alter their world. Modern roguelikes thrive on unlocking irresistible abilities and then allowing the player to occasionally use a few of them. Advance through a collection of stable levels with procedurally generated enemy waves under the stress of limited hit points. Progression is opaque but it eventually settles into a rhythm. Superhot now has a deliberately crude world map. Then its presentation is rocked off its axis, briefly, until it settles into programmer’s paradigm of nodes that represent levels and strange, one-off sequences. Superhot is now in a different space and subject to a different group of peers.Īfter Mind Control Delete’s volley of linear levels comes Superhot’s requisite sequences of challenging the player’s need for violence. Mind Control Delete has the uphill battle of finding its place in an even more crowded genre and with a set of mechanics that, while identically sound, have lost their novelty. Playing Superhot was a singular experience and I couldn’t stop talking about the game to anyone who was almost willing to listen. In 2016, Superhot’s thesis of Gun Kata x Max Payne was exactly what first-person shooters needed and also exactly what I needed. Superhot then replays your beautiful bullet ballet in real time. That katana then gets thrown into the legs of the Red Guy across the room, all while you grab that flying assault rifle out of the air and kill the final opponent over on the steps. Turning around, a hail of machine gun bullets is slowly coming your way, so you can use the katana to reflect the bullet back to its point of origin. That pistol throw makes the Red Guy release his katana, which you catch in mid-air and use to slice him in half. You forget about the Red Guy coming up behind you, turning around just in time to toss your pistol into his face. All of the following can happen in five seconds that take place over two minutes: You line up a pistol shot to shoot a guy in the space where he will exist in two steps. It is difficult to understate the explicit gratification from completing this process. Kill enough Red Guys and move on to the next level. The player can acquire pistols, shotguns, katanas, and blunt instruments, each with unique functionality, to murder the red menace. Black objects in the room can be picked up and tossed at Red Guys to either disrupt their path or knock their weapon out of their hands. Red Guys spill out of ethereal doorways into clinical white rooms and all of them want to kill you. Mind Control Delete, the latest in the line of Superhot iterations, seeks to apply that same ethos to the ranks of roguelikes.Īt its onset, Mind Control Delete seems identical to Superhot. Superhot VR, an entirely different game based around the same set of principles, later used the same measures to disrupt the shooter-heavy virtual reality space. Its concept, time only moves when you move, introduced acute planning and intense precision into a genre rife with frenzied action and conservative production. When Superhot finally released in 2016, its novel take on the first-person shooter allowed safe passage into best-of lists at the end of the year. Another aspect of terraforming is Mars' very weak magnetic field. Air pressure is also important, if not as crucial as oxygen level. The most notable examples are the Bolivian cities El Alto (4150 m) and La Paz (3640 m), each with nearly a million inhabitants.Įarth's atmosphere also contains 78% nitrogen, the main component responsible for air pressure. At 3000 m the oxygen level is 0.14 atm and there are a few major cities at this altitude, mostly in the Andes and in China. At higher altitudes, this decreases as the atmosphere becomes thinner. Earth's oxygen content is 21% of the atmosphere, 0.21 atm. Without a breathable atmosphere, Mars is not liveable, not terraformed. The most important parameter for terraforming is the oxygen level. To enable liquid oceans, the mean temperature has to be positive, at least at the equator. At very low temperatures, oceans are actually glaciers for most of the year.Īlthough the temperature on Mars can already reach 20 ˚C on 'hot' summer days, this is not enough. Water is also important, as it moderates temperature swings. When all three global parameters have reached their goal, the game ends after that generation (after the production phase).Įach area or tile on the game board represents 1% of the Martian surface, so 9 Ocean tiles represents 9% ocean coverage, which should be enough to enable stable hydrological cycles, air moisture, and weather patterns. You may still play cards and actions that increase the parameter - just ignore that part of the effect. When a global parameter has reached its goal, it can't be raised any further, and so does not increase your TR. Whenever you raise one of them, your terraform rating also increases by that much, giving you a higher income and score. Temperature, oxygen, and ocean are called global parameters. It will then be possible, if not comfortable, to live on the surface of Mars! Global Parameters The game ends when there is enough oxygen to breathe (14 %), oceans enough to allow Earth-like weather, and the temperature is well above freezing (+8 ☌). There is also a list of standard projects available to all players, as well as milestones and awards that players can compete for. There is a surface map where you add ocean tiles, greenery tiles, and city tiles as the game progresses. The central game board has tracks for temperature, oxygen level, terraform rating, and generations. Then, in the Production phase, all players produce resources according to their production parameters on the player boards, and gain income from their TR. In the Action phase, players take turns doing 1 or 2 actions, going around the table until everyone has passed. Time is measured in generations, and each generation starts with a Turn Order phase, followed by a Research phase, in which players access new cards. This can be anything, from founding cities to building infrastructure, or protecting the environment. Additional VPs are awarded for anything enhancing mankind's grip on the solar system. As the terraforming process proceeds, more projects become feasible. Your TR determines your basic income, as well as your basic score. Your TR is increased each time you raise a global parameter (temperature, oxygen or ocean). In order to win, you have to accumulate a good terraform rating (TR) and many victory points (VPs). The projects often directly or indirectly contribute to the terraforming process, but can also consist of business enterprises of different kinds. In Terraforming Mars, you control a corporation, and you buy and play cards describing different projects. Your customised character arrives at NewTube City YouTubers Life 2 is a life simulation game, where you literally try to become an influencer. Also returning is the ability to develop friendships and romantic relationships with said NPCs. Many become secondary NPCs whose tasks form the main story which I felt the original lacked. The larger setting compared to Youtubers Life in that the city gave more opportunities and the ability to interact with the many residents. Occasionally I came across issues with the storage system too when the console space, in particular, wasn’t always clear to me. Both of those features made playing feel rushed, especially in the game’s first chapter. When creating content it was a bit of a letdown how quickly energy would run out and the rapid passage of time. The visual approach with colourful meters and stars felt more gratifying when of better quality. The process of recording and editing felt more streamlined compared to Youtubers Life. Like the original, Youtubers Life 2 is focused on recording and editing videos where most of the channel success comes from. Learning the ropes with your drone companion who often gives tips and advice, you learn what the YouTuber life is all about. Where you live doesn’t too much, there are plenty of reasons to visit the rest of the city and often you will need to. I chose the option to live in the video game district of the city (no big surprise there). Creating your character has plenty of variety and so it can fit with the YouTuber you may have in mind. Interact with the community to make new friends and develop relationships with them. I even ended up meeting real-life YouTubers such as Pewdiepie who appear as part of the game. Interacting with the other residents of NewTube City is a major part of the game. There are also quite a few pop culture references and some tongue-in-cheek humour to be found. I and my drone companion could take photos and film vlogs outside too. Youtubers Life 2 is similar to the original game and the world expands outside the character’s home. Home to a community of YouTubers, you choose which type of content you want to create and record your way to the top.
